Bio:
Ashlee Simpson (born Ashlee Nicole Simpson in Waco, Texas on October 3, 1984) is an American singer, actress, and former reality star. She rose to fame along with her older sister Jessica on Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, then starred in her own spinoff The Ashlee Simpson Show. The show chronicled the 2004 release of Ashlee’s first album, Autobiography, which ended up being a huge commercial success due to songs like “Pieces of Me.” She followed up in 2005 with I Am Me, which featured the hit song “Boyfriend.” Her third album, 2008’s Bittersweet World, was much less successful. She is still planning to release a fourth studio album, but has kept busy in the meantime by acting in the short-lived Melrose Place reboot and in the Broadway show Chicago.
Best Known For:
Ashlee Simpson is best known for getting caught lip-synching on Saturday Night Live in 2004. When she began singing “Autobiography” the vocals for “Pieces of Me” — which she had already performed earlier in the evening — began playing again, before Ashlee even had time to put the microphone close to her mouth. She said the incident was due to acid reflux, which had rendered her unable to sing.
Personal Life:
Ashlee Simpson began dating Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz in 2006, and married him in May 2008. She gave birth to a son, Bronx Mowgli Wentz, in November 2008, then filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences in 2011. She then dated actor Vincent Piazza from 2011 to 2012, before meeting Evan Ross — Diana Ross’ son — in July 2013. In January 2014, the couple became engaged. Ashlee and Evan were married at Diana Ross’ estate on Aug. 31, 2014.
