The Bachelor has become a lot less cut and dry from the simple days of meeting a group of women, narrowing them down and choosing one to propose to! Through the years, several seasons did not end in a proposal, and many seasons had finales that totally shocked viewers, as things did not go as expected. Previews for the final two episodes of the show’s current season show star Matt James getting quite emotional as things dwindle down. Could it end just as shocking as some of these other Bachelor finales?!
Peter Weber — Season 24
Season 24 of The Bachelor starred Peter Weber. He narrowed his group of women down to two final choices, Madison Prewett and Hannah Ann Sluss. In the weeks leading up to the final rose ceremony, Madison started to have doubts about her relationship with Peter due to their difference in values. He urged her to stick around, but on their final date, she broke up with him and left the show. Peter went on to propose to Hannah Ann at the final rose ceremony, and they got engaged.
However, as the show was airing, Peter realized he still had feelings for Madison, and he and Hannah Ann ended their relationship. At the live After The Final Rose ceremony, Peter and Madison agreed to give their relationships another shot. It didn’t last long though, and they announced their breakup just days later. Weeks after filming, Peter re-connected with another contestant from his season, Kelley Flanagan, and they started dating during the spring of 2020. That relationship ended before the end of the year, although they sparked reconciliation rumors when they were spotted hanging out at the Super Bowl together.
Arie Luyendyk Jr. — Season 22
Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s season of The Bachelor may have had an even crazier ending! Arie proposed to Becca Kufrin at the final rose ceremony, but weeks later, as the season was airing, he realized he still had feelings for his runner-up, Lauren Burnham. Cameras were there when Arie and Becca met up for a “getaway weekend”, and they captured the pair’s emotional conversation as Arie revealed his true feelings. Becca was obviously devastated as they broke up.
Arie won Lauren back and wound up proposing to her on After the Final Rose. They tied the knot in Jan. 2019 and have a daughter together. In 2020, they also announced that they’re expecting twins, due in summer 2021! Meanwhile, Becca went on to star on The Bachelorette, where she got engaged to Garrett Yrigoyen, but they broke up in 2020.
Colton Underwood — Season 23
Season 23, Colton Underwood’s season, also had a crazy finish. Cassie Randolph made the decision to leave the show during her fantasy suite date, after she found out that her dad didn’t give Colton his blessing to propose. Colton knew he wanted to choose Cassie, so he sent the other remaining women, Tayshia Adams and Hannah Godwin, home on the spot. Then, he fought to win Cassie back, and they left the show as a couple, but without getting engaged. They stayed together for more than a year before breaking up in 2020.
There were even more wild finishes where these came from, though! Click through the gallery above to check out the most shocking endings on The Bachelor over the years!
