Meghan McCain called for President Donald Trump to be removed from office “immediately” after the violent riots on Capitol Hill. The View co-host, 36, seemed to tear up as she urged her fellow Republicans and conservatives to “take a very hard look at where we are as a country and take a very hard look at where we are with President Trump” and invoke the 25th Amendment. Calling the January 6 riots by Trump supporters “one of the great national tragedies of my lifetime,” Meghan declared it “one of America’s darkest days.”

“The bedrock of who we are as a country is the peaceful transition of power, and he is clearly a president who has turned into a mad king,” Meghan said at the top of the January 7 episode. “And at this point I am calling on all Republicans and Conservatives who still have clout: we have to invoke the 25th Amendment. We cannot withstand this. The country cannot go on like this. We cannot risk the idea that we could have more violence between now and President Biden getting inaugurated.”
Trump egged on rioters who stormed the Capitol building on January 6 while a joint session of Congress was confirming Joe Biden as the president-elect. The president had just given a speech to the mob about how the election was rigged and had been stolen by Democrats. The rioters broke into the building as senators and congresspeople evacuated to safety. Vice President Mike Pence, who said that he would confirm Biden, was also in the building.
Political leaders have said that Trump was supporting an insurrection as his followers, waving waved Confederate flags and chanted “bullsh*t,” while wearing MAGA caps. “You know, yesterday when I was watching the footage these bastards are using American flags as symbols as they are attacking our own republic,” Meghan said. “The same flag that our veterans at Iwo Jima held after WWII. You are not patriots. You do not represent America. You are scum of the earth who are using and abusing and bastardizing all that I love and have grown up with for your own sick agenda. And that agenda has directly been sent by President Trump.”
While Trump tweeted at the beginning of the riots that protestors needed to go home, he called them “very special” in a video address and said that America “loved” them. “You are hurting our country, you’re a national embarrassment, and we have to get him out immediately because this cannot stand,” Meghan said on The View. Trump has now been banned from Twitter and Facebook after posting messages encouraging the chaos. He released a statement on January 7 saying that he would now support a “peaceful transition of power.”
