Even before she was famous, Katy Perry was getting the VIP treatment. Katy confessed in an Instagram Live chat with Zooey Deschanel that she used to pretend to be the New Girl star, her celebrity doppelgänger, in order to get into clubs! Katy, 36, said she felt “so complimented” that she actually fooled people into thinking she was the gorgeous actress.

“When I moved to LA maybe 18 years ago… I was pretty much a nobody, and you were like just getting so huge at that time, it was like Zooey Deschanel ran the world,” Katy told the She & Him singer. “In that moment, I was so complimented to look like you. But I have to admit something to you. When I first got to LA, I went to the club. A lot. And I wanted to get into the club, but I had no money. I had no clout, I had nothing, and sometimes I would pose as you to get into the club.”
Here’s where it gets good: Zooey already knew! The Elf star and Katy, back when she had dark hair and bangs, looked so much alike that people would talk about seeing her at clubs. “People were like ‘I saw you!’ But I’m such a goody two-shoes, and people kept going like, ‘I saw you out! I made eye contact with you!'” Zooey said, laughing. “Then everybody kept telling me about you, ‘This girl Katy, she looks just like you,’ and I’m like, ‘Who is this Katy?’ And then when I first met you, I was so relieved because you’re so pretty, and I was like, ‘Oh, thank God. She’s so pretty.'”
Katy apologized to Zooey for potentially “misrepresenting” her, because she was usually “turned up to 11” while partying. Apology accepted! Their look-alike status is the talk of the town again after Zooey starred in Katy’s new music video for “Not the End of the World.” In the video, aliens abduct Zooey thinking that she’s the “Roar” singer. Zooey attempts to save the world, and by the end of the video, transforms into present-day Katy, complete with a blonde wig and a wild minidress.
