Miley Cyrus shocked two of her fans when she commented on their social media video after they challenged her to do so. The couple posted a video of themselves with the caption, “If Miley Cyrus comments we will get married.” Well, Miley did just that. She wrote back. “Hope it goes better for you two than it did for me. Congrats,” along with a diamond ring emoji, skull emoji and black heart emoji.
Miley married Liam Hemsworth at the end of 2018 after nearly ten years of dating on and off. However, their marriage was short-lived, as they split by the following summer. News of their breakup went public in Aug. 2019, and Miley released the song “Slide Away” about growing apart from her husband. The track featured lyrics like, “Move on we’re not 17, I’m not who I used to be” and “It’s time to let it go.”
In November, Miley released her first album since the divorce. Fans are convinced that various songs on the record are about Liam, and Miley admitted that the opening track, “WTF Do I Know,” is about their relationship. The song includes the lyric, “I don’t even miss you,” which is how she felt about Liam “in that minute” that she wrote it, she told Howard Stern. “It’s not that it’s how I feel every second of the day,” Miley explained. “It’s how I felt for a moment.”
During the Howard Stern interview, she also opened up about how she feels about Liam now, more than one year after their divorce. “I really did and do love him very, very, very much,” she admitted. “And still do, always will.” Liam is currently living in Australia, where his family is from. He is dating model Gabriella Brooks and has been spending a lot of time with his parents, brother Chris Hemsworth, Chris’s wife, Elsa Pataky, and their kids.
Miley and Liam met on the set of The Last Song in 2009. They got engaged in 2012, but split by the fall of 2013. After a few years apart, they reconciled and were first spotted back together at the very beginning of 2016. Miley eventually started wearing her engagement ring again after the reconciliation.
