“Cheers to another year of Britney Spears” — and Miley Cyrus! The pop star rang in her 28th year on Nov. 23, but for her birthday post on Instagram, Miley decided to “cheers” Britney instead. Miley made it clear that the 38-year-old pop star has had a significant impact on her life; so much so, she’s been singing Britney’s songs since she was a little kid!

Miley’s birthday slideshow included various clips of herself throughout her childhood, which included a video of Miley singing and dancing to none other than Britney’s 2001 hit “Slave 4 U.” There was a lot more dancing in the rest of the slideshow — tap dancing included! It’s clear that Miley was destined to be a performer (just like Britney), and in one of the throwback clips, the Disney Channel starlet even does a backflips while cheerleading.

Miley made the caption for her birthday post all about Britney, writing, “Cheers to another year of Britney Spears and facing fears! YASSSSS! Thank you for makin my life so unbelievably rad! Appreciate you! [emojis] – yes I deleted and uploaded in color cuz it’s my birthday and I can do whatever the f–k I want …. just like I do every other day of the year.”

Stars from Kourtney Kardashian to Selma Blair left their birthday well-wishes for Miley underneath the post, which was shared on the same day Miley admitted that she had briefly “fell off” and relapsed during the pandemic. Despite the post’s intimate tone towards Britney — and the fact that Miley has previously screamed “Free Britney!” at a concert, amid widespread concerns for Britney’s conservatorship — Miley has previously admitted that she doesn’t know Britney that well.

“I definitely don’t know her personally enough to know any of the details. I scream a lot of things at my show,” Miley clarified during an interview with iHeartRadio in Aug. 2020, which you can watch below. She added, “I also think Britney, like anyone else, should have the freedom to live the life that’s most authentic to her.”

Britney recently lost a request to remove her dad, Jamie Spears, from the conservatorship of her estate, which our sister publication Variety reported on Nov. 10. On a hearing that took place that same day, Britney’s attorney Samuel D. Ingham III also reportedly told the judge that the “Toxic” singer refuses to perform again until her dad is removed from his longstanding position. However, like Miley, Britney has been able to enjoy some birthday drama amid the legal drama. She’s turning 39 years old on Dec. 2, so Britney took an early birthday trip to Maui with her boyfriend Sam Asghari towards the end of November!
