One of our favorite events of the year has finally arrived – the 51st Annual NAACP Image Awards, which aired lived from Pasadena, California on BET Networks on Saturday, Feb. 22. The red carpet was packed with some of our favorite stars including Lizzo, 31, and we rounded up all of the fabulous red carpet arrivals which you can see in the gallery above. Lizzo absolutely slayed the carpet, as usual, when she arrived in a custom graphic gown by Greek fashion designer Mary Katrantzou, who is known for her kaleidoscopic artistry and unique prints!
The look, put together by her go-to stylist Brett Alan Nelson, was a throwback to the ’60s and definitely one to remember. Lizzo has been a game changer on red carpets this past year, often surprising us with unique and interesting looks that are just so her — including tonight’s. Not to mention, her stunning glam and fabulous up-do which was done by her hairstylist, Shelby Swain. The “Truth Hurts” singer tied her look together with a fun lavender eye shadow that perfectly played off the tones in the dress, adding a strappy black sandal and gold-and-red clutch perfect for a red carpet. Lizzo’s been killing her style lately and just the other day on Feb. 18, Lizzo attended the 2020 BRIT Awards rocking a strapless brown Moschino gown that was a Hershey’s Milk Chocolate wrapper.
Never one to miss a fashion moment, Rihanna was the guest of honor as she to received the highly-coveted President’s Award. The “Umbrella” singer skipped the red carpet and snuck into the show in time to accept the award — and didn’t disappoint in a stunning purple dress from Givenchy. The knee-length number featured whimsical ruffles and long sleeves, which she paired with a matching strappy sandal and bold jewels. Her sleek pony styled by Yusef Williams and a bold red lip tied together the memorable look.
Meanwhile, other celebs in attendance included Lizzo’s fellow Entertainer of the Year nominee Angela Bassett, 61, and talk show host Tamron Hall, 49. Angela dazzled in a strapless emerald green gown by Lebanese designer Azzi & Osta, and truly looked better than ever. She accessorized her glamorous look, pulled by celeb stylist Jennifer Austin, with stunning jewelry by Wendy Yue, Gismondi and Sutra Jewels. The sexy dress looked absolutely incredible on her, and we can’t get over her unbelievably toned figure. Meanwhile, Tamron was an absolute princess in a luscious pink gown by Oscar de la Renta where she was set to introduce performer Jill Scott.
Anthony Anderson, 49, who has won five NAACP Image Awards, returned as host for his seventh year in a row and didn’t bore us with his red carpet look. The Black-ish star rocked a custom gray velvet blazer with peak lapels by Los Angeles-based designer Grayscale, along with a black tuxedo pant, classic bow tie and crisp white shirt. Also repping for stylish menswear was Michael B. Jordan, 33, in a sleek Burberry look with Christian Louboutin loafers!
Tracee Ellis Ross, 47, also turned heads on the red carpet in a dramatic gown by Christopher John Rogers that reminded us of something her legendary mom, Diana Ross, would have rocked back in the day! The eggplant colored dress — styled by Karla Welch — gave us some serious ’80s vibes in all the right ways. Tracee showed off her gorgeous figure with a super sexy high slit and open plunge, finishing the look with a sparkly pair of Christian Louboutin pumps.
There were so many other fabulous red carpet arrivals and you can see them all when you click through the gallery above!
