Porsha Williams and NeNe Leakes have had an off-again/on-again friendship over the years on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, and they were definitely experiencing one of their off phases while filming part one of the series’ reunion special, which aired on April 7. The ladies actually started arguing pretty quickly — especially after Porsha accused NeNe of not being a supportive friend. It all started when host Andy Cohen had asked NeNe if she was checking in on a then-pregnant Porsha, and NeNe was very frank and said, “No.” Then, Andy also acknowledged that NeNe wasn’t at Porsha’s baby shower. She claimed she was in Canada filming something, but Andy accused her of being at a party for Floyd Mayweather on the same day. She, however, played dumb and still said she was in Canada.
“She ain’t been to s***. You ain’t been to nothing for me,” Porsha said, telling Andy that NeNe’s absence from her baby shower actually hurt her feelings. “I’m being real. I noticed a pattern after the baby shower. I go to NeNe’s events. However, last year, I had the vegan dinner, [and] she didn’t come. Sex reveal? She didn’t come. She didn’t come to the baby shower. She likes to tell people that I am not a supportive friend. [But], you have not been supportive of me either.” And NeNe didn’t like Porsha’s diss, as she immediately shot back and said, “You haven’t been supportive. Ask the the rest of your cast whether they think you’ve been very supportive. I’m telling you that I don’t think you are supportive.”
Later, NeNe faced off against Cynthia Bailey, when everyone asked NeNe if she was referencing Cynthia in a recent tweet about a “close friend” who seemed “insecure”. NeNe denied she was talking about Cynthia because she’d never refer to her as a “close friend,” which was something that actually surprised Cynthia. Cynthia couldn’t believe that NeNe didn’t see her as a good friend, but as evidenced by the first few minutes of this week’s episode, NeNe is still upset over the fact that Cynthia allegedly knew Kenya Moore was going to her wine cooler event and kept the information from NeNe. (Cynthia denied knowing Kenya was attending, but footage from the night made it appear as though she did know.) NeNe also said she felt that Cynthia’s constant use of the hashtag #CHill on her photos with her boyfriend, Mike Hill, made her seem “insecure.”
“That’s how I feel about it. It seems like it’s overdone, like it’s overkill to me,” NeNe explained. “A girl can have an opinion, honey! But I have been the most supportive of Cynthia and Michael, despite what any of these girls are out here saying.”
“Yeah, which is why I don’t know why you think it’s — like, can I just live if I want to?” Cynthia replied. NeNe then shot back, “Yes you can, but can I just have an opinion if I want to?”
Cynthia started to say, “As a friend…” but NeNe took issue with what Cynthia was saying. “It’s great. It’s amazing. I think it’s amazing,” NeNe said sarcastically. “I was asked a question, and I gave my opinion — friend.”
“Okay, well,” Cynthia replied, “I didn’t like your opinion — friend.”
Meanwhile, Eva took some time to address a comment she made about Porsha’s friend, Shamea, this season, when she said, “She ain’t Blaque with a Q.” Kandi felt the comment originated from Eva referencing that Shamea was a darker-skinned Black woman, but Eva said that wasn’t the case. “I meant that she was not in a singing group even though she was an aspiring singer,” Eva explained. “The fact that you brought that up, [Andy], thank you. I would like to clear up this whole idea of me having a colorism issue. Colorism is an issue in communities of color all over the world, and to take lightly, like, ‘Oh, she doesn’t like dark-skinned people…'”
“It definitely did not come off like you was trying to say she wasn’t in a singing group,” Kandi said, while trying to keep her cool. “That’s not how it felt; that’s not how it came off.” Kandi also said that she never felt that Eva “didn’t like” darker-skinned Black women, she just felt like the comment seemed offensive. Eva said it wasn’t her intention to offend anyone, so Kandi agreed to accept her explanation.
And speaking of Kandi, Andy also shared an emotional phone call he had with her about her surrogacy process earlier in the season — a phone call that wasn’t filmed for the show, but they still wanted to share it. “I said, ‘Well, I guess I’m gonna have a baby mama,'” Kandy recalled. “And you was like, ‘Don’t you ever say that because you are that baby’s mother, and if you say that then you are taking away from yourself.'”
