Not only is Trudie Styler a multi-talented actress, director, and filmmaker, but she also has one of the best Friends cameos of all time! Trudie guested on the 2001 episode of the classic sitcom, “The One with Monica’s Boots”. You remember that? There were two storylines in that episode: Monica insisting on wearing ridiculously painful (and expensive) boots to prove to Chandler that they were worth it, and Phoebe going on a mission to meet her idol, Sting.
Phoebe figures out that Sting’s son is in Ross’ kid Ben’s class at school and has a major freakout. Pretending to be his aunt, she sets up a playdate between the two boys so she can hang out at Sting’s apartment and hopefully meet the rockstar. Like most storylines that involved Phoebe, it doesn’t go so well. Here’s what Trudie tells us about it:
“The moment was, Phoebe was…is a Police fan,” Trudie told the HollywoodLife podcast. “She sort of inveigles her way into Sting’s and Mrs. Sting’s house, under the pretense that her nephew and our son should have this play date. The way the script was written, so that it’s in our New York apartment, and that’s a little bit cagey, because within 10 seconds, she’s talking about Sting. And then…I think the punch line is, I sort of rumble that she’s a fan. And I say, ‘You know what? I’m going to give you 10 minutes to get our of here, before I call the police.’ And then she goes, ‘A reunion? When?’ That was the punchline.”
Most Friends fans consider that episode iconic. Trudie remembers working with Lisa Kudrow fondly. “Love that actress,” she said. We wholeheartedly agree! You can watch the scene in the video above.
Unfortunately, fans begging for a Friends movie are going to have their hopes dashed yet again. The “trailer” for a Friends movie that’s floating around online is a fake. If you’ve been following along with the cast’s careers since the sitcom ended in 2004, you might recognize that the trailer is actually just cobbled together scenes from episodes of Joey and Cougar Town. In one scene, Chandler and Monica get into a fender bender and have an angry confrontation. Sorry, it’s just Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox on Cougar Town. The scene showing Monica and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) talking on a front stoop is from the show, too. And Joey (Matt LeBlanc) and Ross (David Schwimmer) bonding at a party? Sorry, that’s from Joey.
While we’re not holding our breath for a Friends movie, if it does finally happen, we insist on another Trudie cameo! For more of our interview with Trudie, listen to the HollywoodLife podcast HERE!
Trudie’s new film Freak Show is in theaters now.
