Brace yourselves, Grey’s Anatomy fans. Shonda Rhimes brought Derek (Patrick Dempsey) back from the dead on the Nov. 10 episode, and now we’re hyperventilating. OK, so she didn’t actually bring him back to life, but he did appear in a final scene with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), thanks to a bit of CGI technology.
The Derek “moment” was pulled from Season 2 Episode 8 titled “Let It Be,” during which Meredith thought she lost Derek to Addison (Kate Walsh). It was similar to tonight’s episode — Season 13 Episode 8 “The Room Where It Happens” — because Meredith was remembering how she ACTUALLY lost Derek — thanks to a tragic car accident in Season 11.
“Your body hurts. Your brain becomes foggy, and you feel like you’re trapped in a tunnel. When all you want is your bed. So, how do you keep going? How do you not just sit down and give up? Sometimes it’s easy. Sometimes you play games in your head. You make up someone, someone good,” Meredith said while narrating the final scene. And that’s when Derek appeared and said, “Hi.” Sadly, the moment only lasted a second because someone else walked into the operating room and pulled Meredith back to reality. Sigh.
