Trinity Gay, the 15-year-old daughter of Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay was shot and killed on Sunday, October 16 in Lexington, Kentucky, both Tyson and local authorities confirm. Police were called to a restaurant called Cookout near the University of Kentucky, Lexington campus around 4:00am, after witnesses reported gunfire being exchanged between two vehicles.
A group of men outside of Cookout reportedly started shooting at each other, then jumped into their cars, still shooting, and peeled away down Broadway, the road in front of the restaurant. Trinity was shot in the back of the neck, according to police, and taken to the University of Kentucky hospital. She later died there. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, October 17.

It’s unclear at this time how Trinity got in the middle of the gunfight. But she is not believed to be involved with either of the vehicles, said police spokeswoman Brenna Angel. One of the cars was stopped for questioning; police are looking for the second car at this time.
A distraught Tyson spoke to local news station LEX 18 about his young daughter’s death, saying he would be immediately flying home to Lexington. “She didn’t make it. I’m so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened,” he told the station. This is so awful.
