“It’s not something we’ve explored. It never came to the table,” Gal Gadot told our sister publication Variety when asked if her character would be bisexual in the film. Greg Rucka, explained in an interview that she was, since she lived on Themyscira, which was solely populated by women.
“When you talk theoretically about all the women on Themyscira and how many years she was there, then what he said makes sense,” Gal, 31, added. “In this movie she does not experience any bisexual relationships. But it’s not about that. She’s a woman who loves people for who they are. She can be bisexual. She loves people for their hearts.”
This follows Greg’s comments to Comicosity, where he asked, “How can they not all be in same sex relationships?” He continued that it “makes no logical sense otherwise. It’s supposed to be paradise. You’re supposed to be able to live happily. You’re supposed to be able to have a fulfilling, romantic and sexual relationship. And the only options are women. But an Amazon doesn’t look at another Amazon and say, ‘You’re gay.’ They don’t. The concept doesn’t exist.”
Additionally, Gal was asked about the importance of having a female director; Patty Jenkins is heading the film. However, it didn’t matter to Gal. “I don’t think it’s a gender kind of thing. Maybe because we’re telling a story of a girl growing up and becoming a woman, it’s easier for it to be told by someone who was once a girl and became a woman,” she said. “I feel like Patty Jenkins was the right person for the movie because she was the right person for the movie. She knew exactly how she wanted to tell her story. She knew exactly what she wanted to get. She’s brilliant and smart and so passionate.”
