“RIP to a true Westside Atlanta Legend!!!!! You truly represented Bankhead to the fullest!!! My heart goes out to his family, and his children as well,” T.I., 35, captioned a photo of the pair arm in arm. He’s heartbreakingly remembering Shawty Lo after the 40-year-old was killed in a horrific car crash Sept. 21.
“Even through our toughest times I must admit I was impressed, & kinda proud of how well you rep’d our hood, and how much you cared for it,” referring to their Westside Atlanta neighborhood. “It was a real relief to have someone else helping to lift Bankhead up & hold it there. Can’t say enough about how much you meant to the city.”
He then emotionally addressed their 2008 rap feud, saying “Glad we matured beyond our trivial personal differences in time enough to have a laugh about it as neighbors…Rest easy, you’ll truly be missed.”
Shawty Lo and T.I. got in a rap war back in 2008 when Shawty released the track “Dunn Dunn” questioning whether T.I. was a legit Bankhead Atlanta product. Tip clapped back with “What’s Up, What’s Happening,” even shooting the video in the Bowen Homes public housing area where Shawty Lo grew up and famously had the name tattooed on his left forearm with pride.
Their war of words exploded into violence between the crews for both rappers at the 2008 Dirty Awards, which shut down the event and caused police to evacuate the audience. The incident caused Shawty to call up T.I. and talk out their differences, and sealed the deal by performing onstage together at Tip’s Club Crucial in Bankhead in early 2009, thus ending their feud.
