Uh oh! It looks like Gabby Douglas, 20, really wasn’t feeling any love for teammate Simone Biles, 19, when she so deservedly won the gold medal for the individual women’s all-around event Aug. 11 in at the Rio Olympics. She gave a look of total shade and refused to even stand up and clap for Simone’s achievement, which was in stark contrast to Laurie Hernandez, 16, and Madison Kocian, 19, who both lept to their feet in joy, with big smiles and wild applause showing how excited they were for their teammate’s big win.
Given, it had to be hard on Gabby not being able to compete in the individual all-around, an event that she won at the 2012 London games and was hoping to defend in Rio. But she finished third in the preliminary competition for the event, and only the top two scorers from each nation could go on to compete. That meant that only Simone and Aly Raisman, 20, would only be eligible to compete for women’s gymnastics highest honor. It had to hurt sitting on the sidelines watching someone else become the new champ, but she knew she was going to be on camera and at least could have faked some sort of slight happiness about Simone’s win.
This has been a rough Olympics for Gabby image-wise, and her sullen behavior about her teammate’s victory just adds to it. On Aug. 9 when she was part of the women’s team all-round that won the gold, she was the only member of the squad who didn’t put her hand over her heart as the national anthem played, which aroused a chorus of criticism for being unpatriotic and disrespectful. Now she’s showing absolutely no sportsmanship for her teammate’s big victory, which comes across as such a diss! Unfortunately, she’s become the victim of vicious bullying.
HollywoodLifers, do you think Gabby was totally being rude by not acting happy for Simone’s win?
