Jason Sheats, 45, and Juan Sebastian Lugo, 23, made their way to Limestone Memorial Gardens in Athens, Alabama on July 2 to grieve the two women they loved so much: Madison and Taylor Sheats. They were Jason’s daughters, and Taylor, Juan’s fiancée, both horrifically gunned down by their mother on June 24. The beautiful girls, ages 17 and 22 respectively, were finally laid to rest in a beautiful ceremony attended by their loved ones. Click through to see photos of the service.
The grief is apparent on Jason’s face as he walks toward the cemetery, having to bury his two young daughters at the same time after their mother, Christy Sheats, 42, snapped during a family argument and murdered both girls. These photos from the funeral are truly heartbreaking. Jason is blessedly flanked by a large group of family and friends as he has to face seeing a pair of white hearses pull up to the cemetery, and walk toward his daughters’ gravesite. Juan was supposed to marry to marry Taylor, his girlfriend of four years, on June 27, but instead had to attend her funeral just two days prior. Juan, looking solemn in a suit, was greeted warmly by other mourners at the Shelton Funeral Home and at the cemetery as he paid his respects to the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
It’s clear how deeply the Sheats girls were truly loved. A large group of mourners, family and friends alike, gathered outside the funeral home to support Jason and Juan, and remember Madison and Taylor. It was an unspeakable tragedy that must have left their community reeling. Christy, who had a reported history of mental illness, lured her kids and husband into their living room for a supposed family meeting after an argument, then opened fire.
Jason told Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls that he and Christy had gotten into a massive fight after he told her he wanted a divorce. She went on a rampage, and shot and killed their daughters, because she wanted to “teach him a lesson.” She was going to shoot him as well, but left him alive to “make him suffer.”
HollywoodLifers, our thoughts are with Jason and Juan during this incredibly difficult time.
