Former New York Yankee, Karim Garcia, 40, was attacked on May 29 in the Coahuila, Mexico. He suffered a number of serious injuries during the incident, and is set to undergo surgery on May 30. Fortunately, Karim is expected to make a full recovery, but this is yet another attack on a sports player in Mexico.
Karim was reportedly on his way home from a restaurant when he was pulled from his truck and beat, according to ESPN Deportes. The attack was expected to be an apparent robbery turned bad.
As a result of the attack, the ex-MLB player has suffered from a broken nose, broken ribs, and laceration to the head. He is expected to undergo surgery for his norse and chest injuries.
Despite the trauma, Karim has continued to be active on social media. He took to Twitter to thank his fans for their continued support and thoughts during the rough time. “Thank you all for caring about me,” Karim wrote in Spanish. “Your show of support fills me with happiness. In the soul of God, bless you all.”
News of Karim’s attack is very alarming considering he isn’t the only sports player to be a victim of violence in Mexico. Professional soccer player, Alan Pulido was reportedly kidnapped in the northern border state of Tamaulipas, Mexico after leaving a party on May 29. But HollywoodLife.com reported earlier that he has returned safely.
Karim is currently playing for the Saraperso team of the Mexican Baseball League. He had recently made his debut in the league on May 25, after having been injured with a torn ACL for much of the season. But with his latest injuries, it is unclear when he will be able to return to the game.
