Cue the tears! In the four months since Celine Dion lost her husband, Rene Angelil, to cancer, she has done everything in his honor. But on May 24, the 48-year-old singer released a song that is completely dedicated to Rene’s memory titled “Encore un soir,” and it’s just as heartfelt as you’d imagine!
Although “Encore un soir” is only available in French for the time being, the song’s lyrics translate to a heart-wrenching message about how quickly time passes (“But when you live too good, too strong, the passing of time we forget,” she sings just before the chorus). Of course, the song is as beautiful as any Celine song, with vocals and instrumentals that hauntingly match the meaning of the song.
Celine seemingly started working on “Encore un soir” while Rene was still alive, as rumors about the track leaked just one day after Rene passed on January 14. So when she finally got to unveil the single for her fans, she couldn’t help expressing her love for it in a sweet Instagram post:
“Encore un soir” is the first single off of Celine’s upcoming French album, which is expected to be released later this year. It’s still unclear whether the entire album will be dedicated to Rene, but even if it isn’t, surely Celine will continue paying tribute to her late husband…just like she did at the Billboard Music Awards!
In case you missed it, Celine performed a breathtaking rendition of Rene’s favorite song, Queen‘s “The Show Must Go On” (which she had officially released two days prior), on the BBMAs before being awarded the Billboard Icon Award. Upon receiving the award — given to her by none other than her 15-year-old son Rene Charles — she broke down while discussing her husband’s passing and concluded with a tearful “Rene, this one’s for you. The show must go on.” Between the BBMAs and her incredible her new single, Celine is certainly doing an amazing job at honoring Rene!
