Sansa got a letter from Littlefinger and went to see him, along with Brienne. He tried to act all concerned, but she was not having it. He told her that he had the knights of Vale ready to help her take down Ramsay.
“Did you know about Ramsay?” she asked him. “If you didn’t know, you’re an idiot. If you did know, you’re an enemy.”
She asked Littlefinger what he thought Ramsay did to her. He didn’t want to answer, but she kept on pressing. She made him acknowledge the terrible things Ramsay did to her. He swore that he didn’t know the truth about Ramsay. “I don’t believe you anymore,” she said. “I don’t need you anymore.”
Littlefinger said he was willing to do pretty much anything Sansa wanted. “What if I want you to die right here and now?” she asked. Yes, Littlefinger was willing to die. She ordered him to go back to Moat Cailin. She and Jon Snow would take the North back on their own. Sansa claimed that she never wanted to see Littlefinger again — with good reason. Before he left, he mentioned that Brynden had taken over Riverrun and said she might want to seek him out.
Second Chances
The Waif and Arya were still fighting, but Arya had her sight back now. But the Waif was still kicking Arya’s ass. “You’ll never be one of us, Lady Stark,” she said. Jaqen reminded Arya that she’d been given a second chance, but there would not be a third.
He sent her on a little mission with a vial of poison to kill an actress named Lady Crane. Arya was forced to watch this terrible (but kind of hilarious) spoof. The play made fun of Joffrey, Robert, Cersei, Tyrion, Sansa and Ned. Arya went backstage and decided she would slip the poison into Lady Crane’s rum. When Arya started to ask why she needed to kill Lady Crane, Jaqen said, “A servant does not ask questions.”
Over in the Iron Islands, Yara stated her claim to the salt throne. Theon did what he promised and backed Yara up. He gave a rousing speech. “This is our queen,” he tearfully said. However, uncle Euron showed up to ruin the party. He openly admitted to killing Balon. Theon accused him of not being around, while Yara had stayed and supported the Iron Islands through thick and thin.
Well, Euron had some news. He knew all about Daenerys. He wanted to build a huge fleet and give it to her. Despite Yara’s best efforts, Euron was named the king of the Iron Islands. While Euron was being sworn in, Yara and Theon bolted with the best ships. Once Euron caught wind of this, he vowed to build a bigger fleet and kill his niece and nephew.
Forgiveness Looks Good On Dany
Speaking of Daenerys, she had a heart-to-heart with Jorah, who had once again risked his life to save hers. She had finally forgiven him. But he wanted her to send him away. He showed her the greyscale on his arm. His next words were just so beautiful. “I love you,” he said. “I’ll always love you.”
Before he could walk away forever, she commanded him to find a cure, and then return to her. “When I take the Seven Kingdoms, I need you by my side,” she said.
Meanwhile, Tyrion and Varys met the new Red Priestess. Varys was very skeptical of this new chick. But she proved him wrong pretty quickly by revealing that she knew about the mutilation he suffered when he was a child. She knew everything, and it freaked Varys out.
‘Hold The Door’
Over at Castle Black, Jon Snow and Sansa were trying to figure out how to take back the North. What they needed was more men. Jon wanted to start small and then grow. Sansa also revealed the information Littlefinger gave her about Blackfish, but she wouldn’t reveal who told her that useful info. And with that, Sansa, Jon, Melisandre, Brienne, Davos and Tormund set off.
Bran discovered how the Night’s King was created. The Children of the Forest made the white walkers to defend themselves against humans. The Night’s King ended up grabbing Bran, and the Three-Eyed-Raven warned Bran that the Night’s King would come after him. They needed to leave — now. “The time has come for you to become me,” the Raven said to Bran.
Meera ran outside to find the Night’s King and his army of White Walkers ready to charge. But Bran wouldn’t wake up, and Hodor was freaking out. I’m not exactly sure what all went down in this final scene — there was a lot of back and forth — so don’t destroy me in the comments. Meera told Bran to warg into Hodor, and that’s what he did.
A warged Hodor took Bran and ran. Bran was still observing in the past, too. The Night’s King killed the Three-Eyed-Raven, and the Raven disappeared in the past. In the present, the white walkers were closing in on Bran, Meera and Hodor. Meanwhile, Bran was watching young Hodor scream, “Hold the door!” That phrase, connected by Bran, was being heard in the past and present.
The only thing stopping the white walkers from getting to Bran was Hodor holding the door. Poor Hodor kept screaming the same phrase over and over again — in the past and present — until it merged into “hodor.”
Now we know… Hodor’s name was never Hodor. He just kept repeating what he heard while Bran was in control of his body. Hodor actually meant “hold the door” this whole time. Hodor died to save Bran and Meera, and now I’m crying. RIP, Hodor. But seriously, that was like some next level warging. Bran clearly just changed the past, and now I want to know what else he’s going to do. What else is he going to be able to manipulate? I’m all kinds of confused, but just completely heartbroken over Hodor.
