Ahead of Amelia’s wedding, Meredith and Alex had a heart-to-heart about love and whether or not anyone ever gets a second shot at it. Alex worried that Izzie (Katherine Heigl) might have been his one true love, but Meredith didn’t agree. She, however, said she worries she’ll never find another Derek (Patrick Dempsey).
Sadly, Amelia’s mom said she wouldn’t be coming to the wedding because she thought Amelia was making an “ill-advised impulsive decision” by getting married to Owen. So, of course, Amelia was depressed until Owen gave her a bit of a pep talk and Meredith told her to “stuff her feelings in.”
Jo may have told Alex she wouldn’t marry him, but she surprisingly offered to have a baby with him. He said no and accused her of being too much “drama” for him, so they broke up. “I want a wife, and a house, and a family … I want that,” Alex screamed before storming out of their apartment! Jo later drank her sorrows away at Joe’s Emerald City Bar, and Andrew took the role of being her babysitter. During a drunken rant, Jo revealed she’s already married to someone who used to severely abuse her, and if she ever tried to divorce him, he would “find her.” She never told Alex because she doesn’t think he can protect her. And in another surprising twist, as Andrew dropped Jo off at home, Alex walked in on them as they fell into bed together. Alex assumed the worst and punched Andrew in the face repeatedly.
Meredith and Riggs had a flirty exchange at the hospital — during which he revealed they had sex four times in one night (!) — before she headed over to the church to help Owen and Amelia. While talking to Owen, Meredith suggested he call Cristina (Sandra Oh) and let her know about his big day. Amelia overheard, and when Meredith finally went to help her get ready, she told Meredith she was freaking out. So what did they do? They hauled a** and ran like the wind! After a quick stop for some slurpees, and some pep talks from both Meredith and Maggie, Amelia decided to go back to the church and marry Owen.
Meanwhile, April had Warren (Jason George) drive her back to Meredith’s house to retrieve the wedding bands. She forgot them there, even though Owen had asked her to hold on to them. She started experiencing contractions and then her water broke, which left her with no choice but to give birth “on Meredith’s rug.” Once Warren started examining her cervix, he realized the baby was breached, had the umbilical cord wrapped around it, and had no heartbeat. So, obviously, he had to get the baby out as soon as possible, which meant performing an emergency C-section… at home. Using only a sharp kitchen knife, Warren made an incision across April’s belly, as she screamed in agony and Jackson (Jesse Williams) listened from the hospital, via speakerphone. The baby was delivered successfully, but April was rushed to emergency surgery upon her arrival at the hospital. Once Bailey told Jackson and Warren that April was “stable,” she congratulated her husband on “saving two lives.”
Having been inspired by Jackson and April’s cordial relationship, Arizona decided to let Callie go to NYC with Sophia, as long as they share custody. Arizona bought Callie two plane tickets to make the trip possible, and then she just asked to have Sophia back every other school year, etc. It was a touching moment, but we hope Callie isn’t leaving the show for good! (UPDATE: Sara Ramirez confirmed her exit from the series just a minute after the finale aired.)
And as far as Meredith and Riggs are concerned, they had an awkward moment at the church when they couldn’t stop smiling at each other, but Maggie thought he was smiling at her. Even worse — Maggie told Meredith that she likes Riggs and she thinks he likes her. She also has no idea Meredith and Riggs had sex. Oops.
