It is unfathomable to believe that we will never see Prince take the stage again. The legendary singer knew how to electrify a crowd unlike any other, and as we continue to mourn his tragic death, we’re reliving some of his most memorable live performances ever. Check them out right here. Watch his best music videos as well!
As previously reported, Prince was found dead in his Minnesota home at just 57 years old on April 21, his publicist confirmed. The shocking news comes less than a week after the “Purple Rain” singer’s plane had to make an emergency landing in Illinois on the way home from a show in Atlanta because he wasn’t feeling well. At that time, his rep confirmed that he’d been battling a severe case of the flu, and when he gave a concert on April 16, it seemed all was okay. His cause of death is currently unknown.
We’re totally devastating this news, but are choosing, instead, to celebrate Prince’s amazing career by looking back at some of his best live performances here:
1. 2007 Super Bowl
This is the definition of ‘The Show Must Go On.’ Prince took a soaking wet stage in the pouring rain to perform at the Super Bowl Half Time show, and he didn’t falter for a second. What better way to listen to “Purple Rain” than IN the rain, right?
2. 2004 Grammys
Yes, this is an actual thing that happened — Prince teamed up for an epic duet with Beyonce on music’s biggest night. They performed a medley of his hits “Purple Rain,” “Baby I’m A Star” and “Let’s Go Crazy,” along with her song “Crazy In Love.” EPIC.
3. 1991 VMAs
Really, who could forget this one? He wore an ass-less yellow jumpsuit and showed off his butt cheeks while rocking out to “Gett Off.” Who could pull this off besides him!?
4. 2004 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction
Along with Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne and more, Prince got on stage with his guitar for an incredible rendition of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” He wasn’t just an amazing singer — he absolutely SLAYED on the six string, too.
5. 1985 American Music Awards
Prince absolutely owned the American Music Awards in 1985, and besides just winning three huge awards, with nominations for seven others, he also took the stage to perform “Purple Rain,” and it was completely unforgettable.
6. 1983 Michael Jackson & James Brown duet
Enough said.
