Kobe Bryant, 37 has made a vow to help his friend Lamar Odom, 36, stay sober now that he has left the Los Angeles Lakers. The former basketball pro truly wants to be there for Lamar after finishing up his NBA career. The 5-time-champion fears Lamar is in serious trouble and is going to do everything in his power to help. Here’s what we know.
Kobe and Lamar have been friends for a really long time. The night Lamar had his fateful overdose, Kobe was one of the first to rush to his bedside In Las Vegas. Now that he isn’t a pro basketball player anymore, Kobe wants to take some time to help his friend sort his life out. “Kobe’s work may be done on the court but it’s just beginning off the court,” a source tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “Kobe’s really invested in Lamar and is vowing to help him get sober. The Black Mamba had an emotional evening on April 13 as he played his final game for the Los Angeles Lakers after a 20 year career. Despite the big night being all about him, Kobe also had his mind on his friend. “He told Lamar ‘I got you’ and told him he and Vanessa want to help him,” continues the source. “Like Khloe, Kobe fears Lamar’s in trouble and could easily slip back into his bad habits and nobody wants that. They shed a few tears and Lamar was thankful for the offer. If there’s one person who can straighten Lamar out, it’s Mamba himself.”
Lamar and Kobe played for seven years in the Lakers together and appeared in three NBA championships where they won two of them. It’s safe to say the duo have a pretty close bond. Once a Laker, always a Laker! A whole host of celebrities showed up to support Black Mamba at his final game including Kanye West, 38, Adam Levine, 37, and Demi Lovato, 23. It’s incredible to think that amidst all the celebs and fanfare, Kobe had time for his friend. High five Kobe!
