Fans were totally buzzing after Elle King’s fun performance on the Dancing With The Stars finale Nov. 24, who who exactly is this rising star? We’ve rounded up five important facts about the 26-year-old to help you get to know here better — check ’em out!
Okay…mind officially blown — Elle’s dad is Rob Schneider! Yup, the comedian we know and love from several Adam Sandler movies, and his own comedic films like The Hot Chick and The Benchwarmers. Elle’s parents divorced when she was young, and she grew up living with her mom and stepfather, who sparked her interest in music, in Ohio.
Thanks to her famous dad, Elle actually got her start in movies. She landed small roles in his films Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo and The Benchwarmers, but then began immersing herself in her true love — music. The singer learned how to play guitar and banjo, then actually studied painting and film at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, but returned to singing after graduating.
Elle took major risks to get herself heard, using fake IDs to gain access inside New York City nightclubs, where she would perform. She became well-known as a local artist, and became part of the Big Apple’s inner songwriting circle as she worked to jumpstart her career.
The blonde beauty was actually signed back in 2012, and she released The Elle King EP on RCA and Fat Possum Records in June of that year — one of the tracks was even featured as the theme song on Mob Wives Chicago. She garnered some buzz from her early work, with a few television appearances and the likes, but it took some time to really get her footing. Her first studio album, Love Stuff, was released in Feb. 2017, and although it took a few months,”Ex’s & Oh’s'” made it to No. 10 on the Billboard charts. Yay!
Elle has played at well-known venues and events, including the South by Southwest Festival and Hammersmith Apollo, and has joined artists like Train, Dashboard Confessional, Ed Sheeran, Modest Mouse, James Bay and more on major tours. Check out Elle’s single “Ex’s & Oh’s” right here!
