Maddie Ziegler, 12, had a HUGE year professionally, but her rival, Chloe Lukasiak, 14, came out on top at the 2015 Teen Choice Awards. The former Dance Moms star proved she still has the fans on her side by winning the award for Choice Dancer, and she really got back at Abby Lee Miller for years of unfair treatment with some subtle shade in her acceptance speech.
For years, Maddie and Chloe were best friends, but also intense rivals, on the show Dance Moms. Abby Lee constantly pitted the girls against each other, and while Maddie usually came out on top, Chloe had a few big wins of her own, but was constantly put down by their tough coach. Things got so bad, that Chloe and her mom, Christi Lukasiak, left the show after four seasons.
But despite Maddie’s HUGE year — she starred in Sia’s video for “Chandelier” and shot to instant stardom, performing at huge award shows and on talk shows — Chloe came out on top in what might’ve been their biggest contest yet at the TCAs. PLUS, it was the first time Choice Dancer was even a category on the show, so this was definitely a big deal.
During her speech, Chloe, who was wearing a gorgeous Shop Prima Donna Zip Zap bracelet to the show, made sure to immediately give a shout out to ALL her dance teachers — yes, including Abby Lee, although she didn’t mention her by name. However, she also concluded with a subtle diss toward her former instructor.
“I also wanted to say: To anyone who has ever been told that they can’t do it, that they shouldn’t do it, or they aren’t good enough — ignore it. Do it anyways, and prove them wrong,” she told the audience. Abby has told Chloe she wasn’t a ‘good enough’ dancer for YEARS, so it’s pretty clear that this comment was directed toward her. Not too shabby, Chloe!
