So shocking. Paul Campbell, 49, who starred alongside his longtime friend Mark Wahlberg in films like The Fighter and Ted, was killed at his home in Weymouth, Mass. after police found his 72-year-old mother, Patricia, stabbed to death on the front steps.
Police said Paul seemed “agitated” when they arrived on the scene at around 1 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19, the UK’s Daily Mail reports. They shot and killed Paul after he allegedly lunged at them with a knife.
Police and paramedics found Paul’s mother dead on the front steps of the home she lived in with her son. Paul, whom the Boston Globe described as a “onetime heroin addict with a long rap sheet,” was later pronounced dead at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
The medical examiner’s office still has to perform an autopsy on Paul’s mother and an investigation is still underway.
Mark, 43, and Paul were friends during the actor’s troubled younger years and were arrested together in 1990 outside the Wahlberg family’s home in Braintree, according to the Boston Globe.
Paul, who also had a small role in American Hustle, was charged with disorderly conduct and assault and battery of a police officer.
Paul’s and his mother’s shocking deaths are no doubt a huge blow to Mark, and our hearts go out to him, as well as the Campbell family, during this difficult time.
