Doesn’t it feel great to have Pretty Little Liars back? On the Jan. 6 episode, Mona (Janel Parrish) was laid to rest, Aria (Lucy Hale) had a terrifying run-in with “A,” and the Liars managed to one-up Alison (Sasha Pieterse). But was it the right decision?
Poor Mona was finally laid to rest in the midseason premiere. The Liars all looked stunned as they walked out of the funeral. While everyone was, you know, wearing black, Alison came to the funeral dress in a floral dress.
Seriously, Alison. Have some respect.
She went up to Mrs. Vanderwaal to offer her condolences, but didn’t exactly receive thanks from Mona’s mom.
Mona’s mom SLAPPED Alison right across the face.
It was the slap heard around the world. Mrs. Vanderwaal screamed at Alison to tell her where Mona’s body was. The Liars saw the whole thing. Their mouths were on the ground.
Detective Tanner had enlisted Toby to help with Spencer’s case. Apparently, Mrs. DiLaurentis saw Spencer in the backyard with a girl dressed in Alison’s clothes the night Bethany Young was killed. However, this was the first anyone was hearing about this statement. This was a cover-up!
Don’t get me wrong, I am loving Toby as a cop. But is he even old enough to be one right now? He’s like 17, right?
Meanwhile, Ezra offered to talk to Mike since Aria wasn’t having much luck in the sibling department. Isn’t Ezra just great? Mike was still holding a grudge against Aria since she tried to sabotage his relationship.
Paige was all packed and ready to go to California, but Emily wasn’t ready to let go. Tonight didn’t get any easier for Paily fans.
Unfortunately for Aria, her life wasn’t getting any easier either. She was rejected from Oberlin College. Alison came up to her from behind and Aria freaked. She was convinced Alison was “A” and was done letting her get away with killing people.
Alison attempted to explain herself and say she wasn’t “A,” but she was silenced by a whistle. Only Aria.
The Liars realized that they needed to prove that Alison killed Mona. Once they did that, the cops would realize that Bethany and Mona’s murders were connected. But really, they were all just trying to clear Spencer.
Ezra attempted to talk to Mike while they worked on bookshelves. This show knows how to set up epic bromance scenes. However, Mike was in the mood to talk about his dead girlfriend. Enough said, Mike.
Spencer and Emily headed to Alison’s to look for a “muffin tray.” Nice. While Emily was “looking,” Spencer begged Jason to help clear her name.
(Sidenote: Jason DiLaurentis and Patrick Schwarzenegger were separated at birth. They are TWINS. Sexy twins at that.)
Over at the cemetery, Hanna wanted the creepy Mrs. Grunwald to help find Mona’s body. Creepiness ensued.
“Each one hated the other because each one feared the other because each one knew something about the other,” Mrs. Grunwald said. Um, what?
She revealed that Mona was in the dark and not having an easy passing. She was surrounded by earth and insects and cold. She was scared. Poor Mona.
While at the DiLaurentis house, Emily stole Alison’s hairbrush. In order to seal Alison for Mona’s murder, they needed to plant evidence at the crime scene. This should end well.
Aria headed over to Caleb’s apartment. He was still trying to unlock Mona’s files. She made up all of her encryption codes to prevent people like “A” from getting useful information. Mona was one smart cookie.
But Aria wasn’t there for just Mona stuff. She wanted Caleb to hack into Oberlin’s system to find out if she didn’t get because of her grades or because of “A.” Dang, if “A” is having a hand in the Liars’ college futures, this girl/person needs to get into the FBI.
While Spencer and Emily tried to plant evidence in Mona’s house, they found a camera inside the air vent. The girls had struck gold. They just needed Hanna to subtly hint to Mona’s mom that the camera was inside the house so the police would go searching for it.
Aria headed over to the library after getting a text from Mike, but it was “A!” The hooded figure threatened Aria with a screwdriver and pinned her in with nails and stole the computer with Mona’s files!
The police discovered the cameras in Mona’s house, including the one featuring her brutal, bloody death. Jason was brought into the station and watched the video. He said that the girl in the video could be Alison. Alison wasn’t with him or her father at the time of Mona’s death. Alison, you better run.
Well, Alison tried to. As she headed out of her house, she was met by the Liars. She tried to convince them that she wasn’t “A,” but they weren’t buying it.
“Who’s going to protect you when I’m gone?” Alison told them.
Uh oh. Looks like the Liars made a huge mistake.
And yes, Alison was arrested for Mona’s murder. Honestly, I can’t believe it either. This girl has always got tricks up her sleeve, but this time, she had none.
Aria finally worked up the courage to talk to Mike. He was so sick of everyone talking about how sweet, smart and nice she was. People only cared about Mona after she died. “There will never be anyone like her,” Mike told Aria, breaking all the hearts in the world.
She walked out and heard Mike crying. Bless him.
Emily had one very important place to be, and it had nothing to do with “A.” She rushed to the airport to say goodbye to Paige. She thought she was too late, but she wasn’t! Emily told her she didn’t have to go since Alison was in jail. Emily begged her to stay, but Paige wouldn’t budge. This may have been unfair, but this was what had to happen to Paily for the time being.
They kissed and said goodbye. Cue all the tears.
When Spencer got home, she found her father, Toby and Detective Tanner at her house. The police believed that Alison had more victims that just Mona. They were convinced she had killed Bethany Young. With this new information, Spencer was cleared. Praise!
After their successful day, the girls talked about getting out of Rosewood for good. They thought they were winning “A’s” war, but they were sadly mistaken.
The fireworks in the sky went into the shape of the letter “A.” More fireworks ended up in their yard. Alison was in jail so she couldn’t have planned this. Alison had been right the whole time.
But guess what? Alison was in the safest place right now. Those poor little liars.
HollywoodLifers, what did you think of tonight’s Pretty Little Liars? Are you surprised that Ali got arrested?
