‘Revenge’: Daniel’s Death Explained By Executive Producer — Why He Was Killed
“Josh and I spoke at the beginning of the season about the journey we wanted to take Daniel on. He and I were on the same page, wanting to take a big swing at the end of our winter finale, and wanting to see if we could do it in a redemptive way; that moment between [Emily and Daniel] was so beautiful at the end. It was also a way for us to keep shifting what the show is about so we never get complacent and the audience never knows what’s coming next,” Sunil told TVLine.
We certainly admire the risks Sunil is taking, but we’re going to miss the idea of Emily and Daniel getting back together again. Thankfully, the executive producer took notice of fans feeling the same way and he talked about it.
“[Daniel] finally understood what it means to be a responsible human being by the end. It’s a huge loss for the show, but we wanted to take the audience on a new journey with Daniel and Emily this season. Fans were even really talking about them getting back together again, which I took as a real credit to the way we told this story and the way [Emily and Josh] acted those scenes,” he added.
‘Revenge’: The Final Season?
With the return of David Clarke and the death of Daniel, we can’t help but wonder whether the writers are gearing up for this to be the final season of Revenge. But Sunil calmed our nerves a bit when he said the following:
“There have always been talks [of a final season], and the network has been so wonderfully supportive, … There’s definitely the fear of when you make things real — like Victoria knowing that Emily is Amanda Clarke — it’s like, ‘Well, where do we go from here?’ But to the credit of our writing staff, any corner we paint ourselves into is exciting for us because we always figure out how to get out of it. To say we’re approaching this as the last season would be wrong, but we’re not scared to make choices that will make people ask ‘Where is this going?'”
Okay, so this may not be the final season of Revenge. Phew!
Josh Bowman: It Felt Like The Right Time For Daniel To Die
Josh, himself, also talked to TVLine and said that the timing felt right for his character to depart the series.
“We’re on our fourth season, and this is a show where that can happen at anytime. I think it was a good decision for the story, and I think it’ll definitely serve its purpose to help the writers move forward. A death on this show can impact all the other characters; Daniel’s will definitely have a big impact on Victoria, Emily — and Margaux, of course, because of our little baby on the way,” he said.
