It has been 3 years since Lauren Scruggs, 26, accidentally walked into a spinning propeller. After a long road of recovery, Lauren has learnt to live without her arm and eye — she is now stronger and happier than ever. To celebrate this amazing women, lets take a look back at her courageous journey.
On December 3, 2011, Lauren took a short flight in a two-seater plane across the state of Texas to see Christmas lights. She accidentally walked into a spinning propellor at Aero Country Airport. She was slashed so badly that her left hand had to be amputated and her left eye was lost.
At the time, her mother spoke about the incident saying, “I was inside, and someone came in and told me she had gotten hit. I was there until the care flight got there. I was just able to hold her and… that’s the toughest part of it all, just seeing her waiting there and waiting for the help. All I could do was tell her that I love her.” Her mother added, “Lauren is a go-getter, her progress has been phenomenal. She is going to fight and she will fight through this. She will make it through,” — and fight she did!
Just a few days after her accident, on Dec. 8, Lauren looked at herself for the first time in the mirror and her spirits were already back up. “She looked at herself for the first time today in the mirror, that was big,” her father, Jeff Scruggs, announced. “She said, ‘Well, it’s not that bad.’ That was really encouraging.” He added, “She’s able to raise both eyebrows,” Jeff said. “That doesn’t sound like a big deal, but they were worried about the nerve on one side — and she’s able to do that. … She’s got her spunk back, her personality. She’s smiling.”
On Nov. 20, 2012, Lauren revealed to Katie Couric that she was seeing somebody new. She admitted that after the accident she felt insecure — she told Katie, “I was dating a guy for a while before and a little after the accident, so yeah I kind of thought ‘How is a guy going to ever like me?’ but I’ve had guy[s] interested since then.”
Lauren got her happily ever after on May 30, 2014 when her man Jason Kennedy of E! News got down on one knee to propose to her. Jason posted a photo on his Instagram that showed how he popped the big question.
He captioned the photo: “Truth is I never flew to New York, I flew to Dallas and asked her if she would spend the rest of her life with me. I love you @laurenscruggs.”
On Nov. 30, Jason posted a video on his Instagram of himself getting a tattoo of his fiancée’s nickname. Lauren posted a pic of the finished product and captioned it, “A mark that will always remind me of the most permanent love.” The tattoo on the E! hosts’ right ring finger holds special significance because Lauren wears her engagement ring on her right hand, after losing her left arm — so sweet!
We think Lauren is a remarkable woman and we are so happy she found peace and love. HollywoodLifers, do you agree? Let us know!
