The Hot 97 Summer Jam on June 1 was possibly the most awkward event ever. From 5o Cent taking the stage for the first time since his ban 10 years ago to his mic then being cut off, to G-Unit — who famously hate each other — reuniting, things got kind of tense. However, things took a turn for the incredibly awkward when Nicki Minaj jumped into Drake‘s arms — while Rihanna looked on. Read on for more details!
Nicki performed a few songs on the MetLife Stadium stage in East Rutherford, NJ, including “Beez In The Trap” and her new song, “Pills N Potions,” and, most notably, “Moment 4 Life,” which Drake features on. She also sang her verse in Drake’s song “Up All Night,” but with both of those songs, the backing track played, teasing the audience.
However, once she wrapped her set, she introduced the next performer: “It’s a n***a in Young Money I don’t f*** with no more — Drake. I used to love you, but I don’t love you no more.” The crowd was dead silent until Drake hit the stage, cheers erupted, and he went into a performance of “Worst Behavior” — and then Nicki jumped into his arms!
The awkwardness doesn’t stop there. Later, Nicki Instagrammed a pic of her jumping into his arms, with the caption: “Yall gotta chill. Lol this my brother.” I would never want to get as close to my brother as Nicki gets to hers, just saying.
Oh, you want more awkwardness? We’ve got more awkwardness. Rihanna was in the front row, watching it all happen. Rihanna and Drake split fairly recently, and tensions must still be running high.
Nicki also Instagrammed a pic of herself and Rihanna backstage — maybe trying to dispel rumors of a feud? — and we’ve literally never seen Rihanna look less thrilled next to a person who is almost maniacally so:
This isn’t the first time that Nicki has stirred up a little drama between herself and Drake; in an interview with Vice, she told the outlet, “One day I will run away with Drake and get married, but right now it’s just a fantasy.” Meanwhile, Nicki revealed to Ryan Seacrest on May 22 that Drake has already sent her two songs that he’d love for her to feature on!
But hey, maybe Drake and Nicki really are just the bestest of buds — however, if Nicki really is friends with Rihanna, too, Nicki may want to lay off the super intimate hugs for a little while, at least until the dust has settled between Rihanna and Drake.
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Are Drake and Nicki just BFF, or are they on a mission to make Rihanna jealous? Or is Rihanna too much of a queen for any of this to even faze her whatsoever? Let us know!
