Jay Z‘s two ladies, Beyonce and Rihanna, have been competing for the number one spot in the pop/R&B game for years — and that competition has always seemed to border on being friendly and being vicious. But at the Met Gala on May 5, for the first time in a very long time, Bey and RiRi were spotted having a blast together. So have the singers finally buried whatever hatchet they had?
This picture is as momentous as the one Franklin D. Roosevelt took with Joseph Stalin (see it here). Wearing their absolute best — Beyonce in her semi-sheer Givenchy gown and Rihanna in her backless, white crop top look — the two superstars are giving each other a big hug. Beyonce has a big smile on her face, and though we can’t see RiRi’s face, we like to think she’s grinning just as wide.
And speaking of grinning, Jay Z can be seen on the outskirts of the picture, clearly happy to see his wife and protege enjoying each other’s company.
Just to put this in perspective, this is the first time Bey and Rihanna have been photographed together since the Pre-Grammy brunch in 2011. So what changed?
Because while Beyonce and Rihanna have long been rumored to have a feud — which couldn’t have been helped by whispers that Jay had an affair with Rihanna — they’ve also seemed to take some public shots at each other.
Like in March 2013 when Rihanna Instagrammed an article about her beating out Beyonce as the most influential star in the UK and captioned it, “How dat feel down there on ya knees, Huh?!” an apparent callback to Beyonce’s song, “Bow Down.”
Bey seemingly got her revenge when her surprise album dropped in Dec. 2013. She upped the ante on RiRi’s song “Drunk On Love” by releasing her own song, “Drunk In Love,” a song that has basically become everyone’s anthem. Though Bey never acknowledged the similarity, it’s just too close to be a coincidence.
But all that nastiness seems to be a thing of the past now! So what do you think, HollywoodLifers? Have Rihanna and Beyonce become friends? Check out the pic and let us know.
