Fans can’t wait to see Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield and Sally Field in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 but sadly, one of their favorite stars won’t survive the sequel. Find out who after the jump.
Ever since eagle-eyed fans of the Spider-Man comics spotted Emma on set wearing the exact same outfit that Gwen was sporting when she was killed off in the comic books (thigh-high black boots, a pleated mini skirt and a mint green jacket), they’ve been wondering if the actress would meet the same fate on the big screen.
And we’re sorry to tell you that Emma will be killed off in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, in a tragic, heartbreaking scene at the end of the film! Here’s how it all goes down:
While Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield) is battling his former friend Harry (Dane DeHaan), aka the Green Goblin, on the top of a clock tower, Gwen (Emma Stone) is standing by, struggling to maintain her balance on the structure’s beams. When she suddenly loses her footing and falls, Spider-Man shoots out a web to try to catch her and he does — but a twisting gear on the clock snaps his net and Gwen starts plummeting down the middle of the tower!
Spidey tries to save her with another web but she tragically hits the ground one second before it can reach her!
Spidey rushes down to his lady love but it’s clearly too late — she’s not moving and she has blood coming out of her nose. In a truly heart-wrenching moment, Spidey breaks down in tears and wails, “Stay with me! Stay with me!”
The next thing we see is a somber Peter Parker wearing a suit at Gwen’s funeral with her family and his Aunt May (Sally Field). So sad!
Try not to be too mad at us for revealing this HUGE spoiler. The whole shocking death scene is actually described on the film’s Wikipedia page — and whoever wrote it didn’t even bother to give a fan-friendly spoiler alert like we did!
The transformed Harry arrives equipped with Norman’s armor and weaponry; upon seeing Gwen, Harry deduces Spider-Man’s true identity and, wanting revenge for being refused the blood transfusion, kidnaps her. He fights Spider-Man at the top of a clock tower, and though Spider-Man subdues Harry, he is unable to save Gwen. Five months later, Peter has given up being Spider-Man and often visits Gwen’s grave.
