The city of New Orleans has reached its breaking point and the supernatural entities of The Originals are going to be in for the battle of their lives. On the April 22 episode, a catastrophe led Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) to uncover some interesting family secrets, one character met his demise and someone is harboring a deep, dark secret.
One of the main concerns for many of the characters on The Originals was Father Kieran’s (Todd Stashwick) health. Bastiana (Shannon Eubanks) had hexed him and he was starting to feel the effects. He hallucinated Sean (Matt Kabus) and Bastiana while Josh (Steven Krueger) and Cami (Leah Pipes) tried to calm him. Cami still believed her uncle was still there underneath all the crazy and thought of a way to save him — shock therapy.
Klaus (Joseph Morgan) was on a mission to find his mother’s grimoire. However, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) had placed the book where no one could find it. He thought Klaus had cooked up something with the Crescent Wolves and didn’t want his foolish actions to cause them to lose something so precious. Klaus said he was trying to keep Hayley safe with the spell book, but Elijah argued that he was risking turning New Orleans into a war zone, and Elijah wasn’t going to let that happen.
Even though Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) wanted to be by Cami’s side, she didn’t want him risking his life. A doctor visited Father Kieran and was shocked at the priest’s condition. He was dead-set on letting the authorities know about Kieran, but Josh semi-compelled him to stay. Cami wanted to try the shock therapy even though the doctor was totally against it. In a brief truce, Marcel called Klaus. Since he couldn’t be there for Cami, Klaus should be there instead.
Cami was desperate enough to go through with the shock therapy. Kieran got slightly more coherent so Cami wanted to try again. Klaus tried to tell Cami that she needed to prepare herself for the worst. He didn’t want Cami to end up killing Kieran, because he knew she would never forgive herself.
Hayley was getting her lamaze on at the compound. She wanted to be in a hospital for the delivery, but since she’s a wolf, that wasn’t going to happen. Hayley still believed she would be raising the baby alone. Eve (Tasha Ames) assured her should wouldn’t be. Then, Elijah showed up and wanted to talk to Jackson (Nathan Parsons) and Oliver (Chase Coleman) about their plans with Klaus. They teamed up with Klaus so they could get rings to deal with the werewolf curse. As they discussed the situation, a man showed up and wanted to know who was in charge. Suddenly, Elijah used his super senses and realized something was awry. He super sped up to the guy to throw him off before an explosion! (Goodbye, Elijah’s perfectly tailored suit.)
The explosion caught everyone off guard. However, Hayley easily took control of the situation. While she was helping her pack, she realized wolfsbane was in the gas tank. Oliver was especially angry about the surprise bombing and wanted to strike back. With practically nothing to gone on, Hayley was certain of who bombed the bayou: Marcel.
Hayley left the compound in search of Marcel. She tracked down Diego (Eka Darville) and threatened him with a stake to his heart. She wasn’t playing around and demanded to know where Marcel was. After finding his location, Hayley called Klaus for help. Klaus stayed by Cami’s side and told Hayley to stay out of trouble. Even though this was a solo trip, Hayley lied and said Elijah had accompanied her so Klaus wouldn’t freak.
Marcel and Hayley finally came face-to-face. Apparently, Marcel knew her entire family. Hayley asked if Marcel killed her family, but Marcel was quick to tell her that her parents had many, many enemies. There was in-fighting among the wolves and someone turned on them. Marcel found Hayley in her crib and took her to Father Kieran. Marcel could have kept her for leverage since she was the last Lebonair, but he didn’t; he pledged to her he wasn’t responsible.
To say Hayley missed a lot while she was out looking for Marcel is an understatement. As Elijah and Jackson were trying to restore order, there was another explosion. And another. And another! This time, there many more casualties, including Eve. She wasn’t going to heal like the rest of the pack because she had never triggered the curse. Elijah tried to offer his blood to save her. Oliver was still consumed with fighting back, but Jackson held him down.
Father Kieran was reeling from the shock therapy and Klaus just stuck his fist into his chest to massage his heart. Klaus then fed Kieran his blood and Cami watched him die. Klaus reminded Cami that turning Kieran wasn’t the goal, it gave Cami a chance to say goodbye. Cami asked Klaus to stay a little longer and he said yes! (Aw.) When Father Kieran woke up, he seemed pretty normal. It appeared the hex was broken by his death. However, Father Kieran wasn’t going to turn. He wanted a chance to talk to Cami about his decision without Klaus around. Cami thanked Klaus for his kindness.
Meanwhile, Oliver wanted Eve to trigger the curse so she could heal. However, Eve discovered that it was Oliver who planned the bombing. He said it was just to get people riled up and make some noise. Eve said the pack would punish him for his plan. In order to keep his deadly secret, he smothered her!
Oliver began making a move for power after the tragedy. He had the pack rallied and ready to go after the culprit. Jackson and Hayley grieved over the loss of Eve, not knowing that Oliver put an end to her life.
Klaus went to Genevieve (Elyse Levesque) and demanded to know about the attacks. He was certain that even Marcel wouldn’t stoop so low and he was convinced the witches were involved. Genevieve thought Klaus was overreacting and assured him the witches had nothing to do with it. This segued into a conversation about Father Kieran and the hex disappearing. Turns out, Klaus was wrong. The hex had returned with a vengeance. Father Kieran was ready to kill himself, but ghost Bastiana showed up and said more work was to be done. He was allowed to leave since the boundary spell was negated after he died.
Father Kieran went after Cami and even transitioned. Cami was thrown down from the upper level and Father Kieran just started throwing her at the pews. Ghost Bastiana and Sean ordered him to kill Cami. Before he could do the deed, Klaus grabbed Kieran. Then, Cami gave the OK for Klaus to kill Father Kieran and he plunged a stake into his heart. In her moment of grief, Klaus carried Cami out of the church.
Later, Marcel told Klaus he had nothing to do with the bayou bombing. In another act of mercy, Klaus lifted Marcel’s exile for 24 hours for Kieran’s funeral. Despite Klaus’s kindness, it was Marcel’s name Cami called out for. But first, Marcel had to make sure Josh had retrieved what he needed. Josh succeeded in bringing the necklace worn around Father Kieran’s neck. Apparently, it was going to be something everyone would want.
Klaus and Elijah mulled over the day’s events. Elijah handed over the spell book to Klaus. Mayhem had returned to New Orleans and the Original family needed to be ready. If Elijah had to choose a side, it was always going to be family.
