Meanwhile, at McKinley, the New Directions took on twerking! However, it wasn’t all fun and games. Marley (Melissa Benoist) came face to face with Jake (Jacob Artist)’s secret hook up, which aggressively tore her apart — and ultimately led her to a serious wrecking ball (and some brick throwing).
After a totally embarrassing — and totally hilarious — video surfaced of Blaine (Darren Criss) getting his twerk on, Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) decided that that was the perfect ingredient the glee club needed to shake things up!
However Sue (Jane Lynch) didn’t agree. She went off on a rant, in a “Sue C’s It” segment, completely dissing Miley Cyrus and the club for twerking — so Schuester decides to “blur the lines” by twerking down the hallway to the Robin Thicke song. Honestly, he looks mighty fine doing it. However, I’m going to say that while it was completely entertaining, it was totally inappropriate!
To convince Sue and the school board twerking was fine, Schuester took us down memory lane about “forbidden” dances. We got the point, but it was a little outrageous.
During the sexy performance, Jake (Jacob Artist) danced with Marley (Melissa Benoist), but continued to have eyes for Bree (Erinn Westbrook). Apparently eyes weren’t enough for the wannabe Santana. She decided (in the rudest way imaginable) to tell Marley that she and Jake had been hooking up — by telling her about a mole on his right hip (ew). Marley was notable wrecked, so what else would she do but rock out to “Wrecking Ball” while crashing through a brick wall and breaking windows.
And she wasn’t the only one heartbroken.
Unique (Alex Newell) had a hard time accepting herself, not knowing what bathroom to go in — she got teased by the boys in the mens’ room and by the girls in the ladies’ room. Singing “If I Were A Boy,” it was definitely the most heartfelt performance by her we’ve ever seen. It also made the men in the glee club pissed off and wanting to defend her!
However, to get a key to the faculty bathroom for Unique to feel comfortable, Schu came to an agreement with Sue — and it was officially the end of the twerking. It was a family moment in the Glee club when they all realized he put Unique’s feelings before the dance he wanted the team to take on at regionals.
Meanwhile in New York, Rachel (Lea Michele) and Kurt (Chris Colfer) decided they needed to shake things up in their lives and do something crazy. Rachel played with the thought of cutting her hair — and even fooled everyone but me with a wig for a bit during a heart-stopping “You Are Woman, I Am Man.” She decided that part of her grieving process over Finn (Cory Monteith) would be “diving head first in to life,” which is a positive idea that I’m all about.
So, it was time for tattoos — yes, that was the idea they came up with. However, Kurt followed through while Rachel backed out!
Kurt meant to get “It gets better,” but instead got “It’s get better” — which was his own mistake. However, he had a heart to heart with the tattoo artist — yes, it was just as weird as you thought — and the artist told him he’d fix it for free. He fixed it as . . . “It’s got Bette Midler” — genius.
He also came home with a tongue ring, and admitted that he too was looking for a way to move forward from “walking around in a trance” after Finn’s death, but he was still bummed out that Rachel backed out.
“I don’t think there’s anything that I would love enough that I would want to get on my body for the next fifty years,” she told him. After that statement, we knew what was coming. Rachel wandered into their bathroom, lifted her shirt to show a perfect, delicate word on her side: “Finn.”
