They don’t call it Holly-weird for nothing! The Canyons, a new movie from director Paul Schrader and writer Bret Easton Ellis, tells the twisted tale of a producer (James Deen) who discovers his actress girlfriend (Lindsay Lohan) is carrying on an affair with a fellow actor from her past (Nolan Gerard Funk). Needless to say, all three of their lives are quickly turned upside down.
Nolan recently came by the HollywoodLife.com offices to chat about his role in the neo-noir, and after forcing him to awkwardly introduce himself in character — my apologies, Nolan — he told me what it was like working with Lindsay on set:
She’s a blast. She can be a lot of fun. Even though we’re not on screen a lot together, the scenes that we do have are really important. We really made a point of making sure there was a believable chemistry there.
But Lindsay isn’t Nolan’s only noteworthy co-star in the movie, now available on-demand. James, who’s best known for his work in the ‘adult film’ industry, recently made a little movie with Teen Mom star Farrah Abraham. Sadly, Nolan hasn’t gotten a chance to check that one out.
And because I’m a terrible person, I couldn’t let Nolan leave our office without making him talk about that little blue number he wears in The Canyon‘s trailer:
I was kicking and screaming that whole time. Basically, the first shot we filmed was ‘the blue thong scene.’ The director came up to me and said, ‘So, Nolan, we’re going to start with the shot on your package and we’re going to tilt up to your face.’
You know, typical work problems.
