Reid Flair, the pro-wrestler who died of a heroin overdose March 29, received a special shout out after the June 30 episode of ABC’s Wife Swap. On the episode, Reid’s father Ric Flair traded lives with his long-time rival, fellow WWE superstar Rowdy Roddy Piper, giving us more insight into the family that Reid tragically left behind.
While Ric spent time with Roddy’s family — wife Kitty, daughter Falon, son Colt and Colton’s fiancée Sarah — Roddy tested the waters with Ric’s family. That motley crew consisted of his girlfriend Wendy, and her four children: Sophia, Sebastian, Paris and Summer.
At the end of the episode, a photo of Reid was shown to honor his memory.
When news of Reid’s sudden death broke in March 2013, the entire WWE community was devastated.
“My heart is with Ric and Reid Flair today!” Rowdy Roddy Piper tweeted. “Reid was my son too! … Good Night Reid. Love ya!”
The Miz also tweeted, “Been on a flight all day just heard about the passing of Reid. My thoughts and prayers go out to Ric Flair and his family.”
Shortly after his passing, the following statement was released by his father’s agent, Melinda Morris Zanoni:
We are heartbroken to confirm that Ric’s son, Reid, has passed away today on March 29, 2013 in Charlotte, NC. The investigation into the cause of death is ongoing. Reid was an incredible son, brother, friend, and professional wrestler. No words can describe the grief that Ric and his family are experiencing and they do request privacy during this devastating time.
Our hearts continue to go out to the Flair family.
