Well, kids, we can finally put a name to a face! Rowan Blanchard, 11, has been tapped to play Riley, the daughter of Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel) on Girl Meets World. “As soon as Rowan walked into the room, I was reminded of why Ben Savage was loved as Cory Matthews,” producer Michael Jacobs tells Entertainment Weekly.
He continues: “Rowan is real and accessible and I am hopeful this girl is about to meet a world that will love growing up with her as well.”
Well, she certainly looks the part!
“I have a beautiful, new daughter,” Ben tweeted shortly after the news broke. “Welcome to the family @rowblanchard! #GirlMeetsWorld”
Danielle also expressed her excitement with a tweet, saying, “Want to meet my and @BenSavage’s daughter for Girl Meets World? Here she is: @rowblanchard!! Congratulations beautiful girl! Can’t wait!”
Ben, 32, spoke with Rolling Stone about the nationwide search for Riley back in Dec. 2012, and had this to say:
“There have been a few names tossed around. We’re meeting with girls and auditioning and that whole process. … We’re slowly trying to find the perfect girl.”
And it looks like they finally found her. Rowan’s previous credits include 2011’s Spy Kids: All The Time In The World, as well as 2010’s The Back-Up Plan.
The parts of Riley’s older brother, Elliot, and best friend, Maya, have yet to be cast, two announcements we’re eagerly awaiting.
Danielle, 31, recently confirmed that filming for the pilot begins in February, so they’d better start casting quickly!
HollywoodLifers, what do you think of this casting choice? Is Rowan not exactly what you’d expect Cory and Topanga’s daughter to look like? Drop a comment with your reaction to Riley.
