The show opened on coaches Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Cee Lo Green, along with hosts Carson Daly and Christina Milian and a majority of this season’s finalists on stage surrounded by candles, each holding a card with the name and age of a victim, while they performed Leonard Cohen‘s beautiful ballad “Hallelujah”.
It was a touching moment that surely drew tears from the audience both in the studio and at home.
The First Two Victims Laid To Rest
As previously reported, the first two victims of the shooting, Jack Pinto and Noah Pozner, both aged six, were laid to rest earlier in the day on Dec. 17. Little Jack was buried in the Newtown Village Cemetery, while Noah was buried in the B’nai Israel Cemetery in neighboring Monroe, CT. In a truly tragic development, it was revealed that Noah’s twin sister Arielle survived the brutal attack in her class room when her teacher hid her, along with her classmates, in a bathroom.
President Obama’s Address To Newtown
President Barack Obama visited Newtown, CT on Sunday, Dec. 16 to visit with the grieving families. While there, he addressed the community, saying, in part, “Here in Newtown, I come to offer the love and prayers of a nation. I am very mindful that mere words cannot match the depths of your sorrow, nor can they heal your wounded hearts. I can only hope it helps for you to know that you’re not alone in your grief; that our world too has been torn apart; that all across this land of ours, we have wept with you, we’ve pulled our children tight. And you must know that whatever measure of comfort we can provide, we will provide; whatever portion of sadness that we can share with you to ease this heavy load, we will gladly bear it. Newtown — you are not alone.”
