Ashley Benson may engage in some light shoplifting as bad-girl Hanna on Pretty Little Liars, but that’s child’s play compared to the shenangins in her new movie Spring Breakers. “The person I play is insane,” she told HollywoodLife.com at ABC Family’s Winter Wonderland on Dec. 2 in NYC. “I’m actually very excited for people to see that side of me, because I’ve never played anything like this character.”
Spring Breakers is the story of four college girls on spring break — Ashley, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and Rachel Korine — who get bailed out of jail by a drugs-and-arms dealer, played by James Franco. It’s the sort of tale that could only come from the brilliantly twisted mind of writer-director Harmony Korine.
“He is the best director I’ve worked with, hands down,” Ashley gushed. “He’s so amazing. … That was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had working. I’m really, really proud of that movie.”
Ashley admitted she’s unsure how PLL fans will respond to her radically different role, though she’s hoping they’ll keep an open mind.
“They’re going to see me in a completely different light,” she said. “I don’t know how they’ll take it, but I think they’ll like it. … It’s rated R, so don’t see it if you’re not able to.”
