Twilight Saga screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg says that our favorite, hunky vampire has a lot in common with Showtime’s resident serial killer, Dexter. WHAT?
Edward Cullen, Twilight’s leading man, is technically a blood-thirsty vampire, but comparing him to Showtime’s serial killer-with-a-heart-of-gold is a little…aggressive, no? Although the two characters seemingly have little in common aside from their killer instincts, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg (who has written both parts) insists they’re two peas in a pod!
“Even though [Dexter and The Twilight Saga] are of different genres, characters like Dexter (Michael C. Hall), Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner) are all examining what it means to be human,” Melissa told audience members during a Writer’s Guild event in LA July 13. “The attraction to characters like these is that there’s no black or white – they’re shades of grey with lots of complexities and everything in between.”
Talking about complexities – how hard was it to make the decision to split Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final book in the Twilight Saga, into two movies?
“Stephenie [Meyer] needed to know if two movies [could be made from Breaking Dawn] and if they were as she wanted them, and that came down to my outline,” Melissa explained. “That was a lot of pressure, but ultimately, we decided that it worked.”
So, Twi-hards, trust Melissa – she’ll do you right! In fact, she’s reassuring you that she’ll include ALL of Breaking Dawn’s hottest moments – including the hot sex scenes and gross vampire baby birth. “Stop worrying about it!” she admonished. “The stuff you love about the book is going to be on screen. There is going to be sex, skin, feathers, childbirth, and all that stuff. I wish people would just put that out of their minds because it’s making them crazy.”
Just and FYI, Melissa. It is VERY hard for people to forget about sex. Just sayin’….
